Eating Disorder Therapy in Philadelphia

Doctoral-level eating disorder therapists offering in-person therapy in Philadelphia and on the Main Line, and virtual therapy across Pennsylvania.

Eating Disorder Therapy in Philadelphia

Founded by Dr. Colleen Reichmann, licensed clinical psychologist and published author on eating disorder recovery. Every clinician on our team has worked in higher levels of eating disorder care.

Wildflower Therapy is one of the most sought-after practices for eating disorder therapy in the greater Philadelphia area. We treat eating disorders from a Health at Every Size and weight-inclusive lens, using an integrative, individualized approach that helps people finally find peace with food and their bodies, sometimes after a lifetime of struggling.

We know how scary it is to be vulnerable about these topics, to share your deepest fears and past experiences with another human. Especially when it comes to your relationship with food and your body. That is exactly why we are so honored, and we don't use that word lightly, to be part of your journey. You are the expert on your life. We walk alongside you, helping you process your lived experiences while giving you specific skills, lenses, and support to change your relationship with food and your body.

Why people choose us

Why Families and Adults Choose Wildflower

Doctoral-level expertise

Our practice was founded by a licensed clinical psychologist who has written a book on eating disorder recovery, and several of our clinicians hold doctoral degrees. Eating disorders are what we do, not one specialty among many.

Experience from every level of care

Every clinician on our team has worked in higher levels of eating disorder care, including residential and day treatment settings. That experience means we are comfortable supporting people other outpatient practices turn away.

Lived experience and genuine passion

Many of us are recovered ourselves, or have walked alongside family members who recovered. We do this work because it is personal to us.

What we help with

Anorexia

Characterized mainly by restriction of food intake, though it can take many forms and does not have one “look.”

ARFID

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder involves low intake driven by sensory struggles or anxiety about eating rather than body image. We are one of the few outpatient practices in the region with genuine ARFID expertise, for children, teens, and adults.

Chronic Dieting

Not a formal diagnosis, but just as impactful. If you have cycled through diet after diet and feel you have tried everything, this is for you too.

Bulimia

Characterized by cycles of binge eating and compensatory behaviors that feel impossible to escape alone.

Orthorexia

An obsession with “perfect” eating and health that crowds out the rest of life.

Binge Eating Disorder

The most common eating disorder, involving episodes of eating that feel out of control, often carrying heavy shame. You are not alone, and it is treatable.

""

Compulsive Exercise

A rigid, obsessive relationship with movement that persists even when it hurts.

Not sure what to call it?

You do not need a diagnosis, or the right words for it, to book a consultation.

Body image work

Body image is woven through everything we do, and we also work with it directly.

Who we work with

From age five to eighty, and everyone in between

We work with children as young as five, teens, college students, adults, and parents. Our clinicians see the entire spectrum of disordered eating, from people who would never call what they have an “eating disorder” to people who have carried a diagnosis for decades.

We also specialize in the places eating disorders intersect with the rest of life: body image, perinatal and maternal mental health, athletes, college life, neurodivergence, and LGBTQIA+ identity. Our care is Health at Every Size-informed, LGBTQIA+ celebratory, and neurodivergent-affirming.

Transitions of care

Stepping down from a treatment program?

If you or your child are finishing a residential, partial hospitalization, or intensive outpatient program, you already know that the transition home is one of the hardest parts of recovery. Finding an outpatient therapist who truly understands what higher levels of care involve, and who can hold the intensity of early recovery, matters enormously.

This is a core part of our work. Because every clinician on our team has worked inside those settings, we speak the same clinical language as your treatment team, we collaborate closely with dietitians, physicians, and psychiatrists, and we are comfortable taking on clients in earlier, more acute stages of recovery than many outpatient practices will. We use a multidisciplinary model of care even though we are outpatient.

If you are currently in a program and planning your next step, we are glad to coordinate with your treatment team before discharge so that nothing falls through the cracks.

Our approach

How we work

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to eating disorder recovery, so we do not offer one. Our clinicians draw on evidence-based, research-backed methods, individualized to you, and integrate them with a relationship that is warm, collaborative, and, yes, sometimes funny. We are a bit quirky and we believe humor belongs in healing.

Depending on your needs, your therapist may draw on approaches including Family-Based Treatment for children and adolescents, cognitive and behavioral therapies, and body image-specific work, always through a weight-inclusive, trauma-informed lens.

Investment and insurance

We are a private-pay practice. This allows us to keep caseloads small, protect your privacy, and tailor treatment entirely to you rather than to an insurance company's requirements. We are happy to provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, and many of our clients receive partial reimbursement from their insurance plans. We will walk you through exactly how that works during your consultation.
